Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood
Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that actually can improve your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at dealing with depression. You need to see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating an egg and jolly up!
Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein source.
If you would like to battle depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.
Grains can be great for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you be happier. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest them faster than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is really good for your mood. You were simply waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Go with these suggestions instead!
