Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food
Most of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we have to avoid them. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Consume an egg and feel a lot better!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to feel better. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.
Grains can be good for overcoming a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you be happier. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Go with these hints instead!
