Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food
Many of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very nourishing and good for you. A number of foods really do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Try consuming a few eggs to jolly up!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.
Grains can be great for overcoming a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you be happier. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier also!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try these tips instead!
