Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really healthy and good for you. Some foods honestly do boost your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at beating back depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating an egg and be happy!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Nuts, on top of elevating your mood, can be a great protein source.
Cold water fish are great if you want to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.
Grains can be excellent for overcoming a bad mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. Feeling starved can be terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were just expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!
You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Test out these suggestions instead!
