Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods honestly do raise your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are wonderful at fighting depression. You must be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to battle depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling famished can be awful! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is truly great for your mood. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that it can help you be happier too!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
