In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are some foods that actually can boost your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Consume an egg and jolly up!
Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to fight depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.
Grains can be wonderful for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling starved can truly bring you down! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body.
