Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood
Most of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. A number of foods really do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you boost your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein source.
If you want to beat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.
Some grains are truly wonderful for driving away bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. They help you feel full as well which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can be terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try some of these instead!
