Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood
Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are terrific at fighting depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Eat an egg and jolly up!
Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are good if you want to feel better. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.
Grains can be excellent for driving away a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel low when you feel hungry! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!
