Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood
Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for elevating your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Try to eat an egg and feel better!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.
Cold water fish are good if you would like to feel better. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can actually help to make your mood better. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. And now you are aware that it can help improve your mood as well!
You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
