Foods That Make You Happy
Most of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we have to keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are some foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at fighting back depression. You must be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!
Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.
If you wish to beat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.
Some grains are truly great for driving away bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can be terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. And now you know it can help raise your mood too!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try some of these instead!
