Foods That Make You Happy

Many of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that actually can boost your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try eating a couple of eggs to feel better!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.

If you wish to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. You digest them more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try these tips instead!
